Cook Islands Climate Change is the national authority responsible for coordinating and overseeing the Cook Islands’ response to climate change under the Government of the Cook Islands. The Programme operates within the Office of the Prime Minister and works across government, communities and partner organisations to strengthen resilience, reduce climate risks and support sustainable development outcomes.
The Cook Islands is highly vulnerable to the impacts of climate change, including coastal erosion and inundation, prolonged droughts, flooding, cyclones, changing rainfall patterns and shifting ocean conditions. These climatic changes pose risks to infrastructure, ecosystems, food and water security, economic development, public health and community wellbeing.
The Programme plays a central role in advancing national climate priorities, aligning them with international commitments and facilitating access to climate finance and technical support for implementation.
